Researchers at the United State Department of Agriculture's mosquito and fly research unit in Gainesville, Fla., had a volunteer stick his hands into a cage of 200 female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes. One hand was coated with DEET, the main ingredient of most mosquito repellents on the market. The other was left unprotected.
